What is mediation?

Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process where a neutral third party, called a mediator, assists in communication and negotiation between opposing parties. The ultimate aim is to achieve a mutually acceptable agreement. Importantly, the mediator does not make decisions; instead, the involved parties retain the authority to decide their own case.

What are the benefits of mediation?

  • Cost-Effective: Mediation is generally less expensive than the formal court process. It allows parties to resolve their disputes without incurring high legal fees or lengthy court proceedings.

  • Confidentiality: Mediation is a private and confidential process. Participants can openly communicate and explore solutions without their discussions becoming part of the public record.

  • Control Over Outcome: In mediation, the involved parties retain control over the outcome. Unlike in court, where a judge has the final say, mediation allows for collaborative decision-making.

  • Reduced Stress: Mediation is often less acrimonious than court proceedings. Instead of adversarial battles, parties work together to find common ground and reach agreements.
