Ann Johnson

Ann Johnson’s diverse life experiences bring value to any conflict resolution process or forum. She completed her mediation training at the A.A. White Dispute Resolution Center from the University of Houston Law Center.

A native Houstonian, Ann is the youngest child of the Honorable Jake and the Honorable Carolyn Marks Johnson. Growing up in her family’s law firm, she saw first-hand, the weight parties carry on their shoulders during litigation and trial. Ann graduated from Mount Carmel High School. Her Bachelor of Arts degree is from the University of Texas at Austin and her law degree from South Texas College of Law - Houston.

Before joining the Harris County District Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor, Ann worked as a briefing attorney on the Fourteenth Court of Appeals.

Later, while in private practice, Ann tried and won a case of first impression establishing protections for children of sexual exploitation and human trafficking, leading to her appointment as Chief Human Trafficking prosecutor. Ann Johnson is a nationally recognized Human Trafficking expert providing testimony before the United States Congress, training to Local, State and Federal Law Enforcement and the Judiciary.

Ann was diagnosed with cancer in her early thirties and took time away from the practice of law to seek treatment. During that time, she worked with her sister’s company in Chicago providing wholesale mortgage lending to small community banks across Texas, Colorado and Wyoming.

Ann is a seasoned trial and appellate attorney, with more than 20 years’ experience in criminal, civil and juvenile litigation, handling criminal matters from driving while intoxicated to complex human trafficking investigation and trial. Her civil practice includes a range of matters from auto collisions, to Deceptive Trade Practices Act, to Title IX and civil rights actions. Ann cherishes the awesome responsibility of standing in a courtroom speaking for those unable to speak for themselves. She also served as an adjunct professor at South Texas College of Law – Houston teaching courses in trial skills, voir dire and jury communication for more than 20 years. Today, Ann maintains a private practice at Johnson Law Firm PC and, of counsel, to Roven Camp PLLC.

In 2020, Ann was elected State Representative for Texas House District 134, assigned as Vice Chair of the General Investigating Committee, Vice Chair of Insurance, and serves on Public Health, Youth Health Safety and Calendars Committees. She is also a member of the American Leadership Forum’s Criminal Justice Fellows Program; a program designed to join and strengthen leaders involved in the criminal justice community. Ann is a former member of the Texas Children’s Justice Act Task Force and a founding member of Harris County CARE Court.

Ann and her wife, Sonya Cuellar, are grateful to be Aunts to numerous nieces and nephews, enjoy their time with their 3 rescue dogs and appreciate their community at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
